Community Update 36

Community Update 36

  • Medha

    • Node 6 Release branch cut and RNode v0.6.1 released.

    • Bugs are the highest priority for resolution.

    • Medha is focusing on Triage every Tuesday after node testing.  If you come across a bug and want to file it, please check that no one else has reported the issue: Dashboard

    • Sharding and Economics for Consensus are not ready, these will be part of Node 7.

      • The team will end up delivering features all the way up through November.

      • Medha is working on proposing release criteria, and will work with the development team & CoOp board to settle on these criteria.

    • Great progress during node testing this week.  We had 32 peers connected, 60 attendees on the call.

  • Rholang team:

    • Registry is in implementation.  We will support UUID's and public keys only.

    • Plan on compressing block data before sending (helps with 4 MB protobuf limitation)

    • Block approval protocol for genesis block is in review.  Tested the process yesterday.

    • Integration of the block store is in review.  This is a large PR that depends on the Genesis block approval PR.

    • Unbonding contract in review.

    • Error handling in Casper in review.

  • Storage/Node team:

    • Addressing issues in RSpace relating to thread management and performance.

    • Discovered the LMDB single writer limitation is in fact an issue we must address.  We are moving to a hybrid solution, where we use an InMemory Hot store and LMDB for checkpoint and history.

    • Implemented updated frame size to support blocks of 100 MB by default.  The size is configurable via a command line flag on node startup.

    • Performance harness improvements.  Medha to demo the Grafana dashboards today.

    • We have a Grafana dashboard that can be used for testnet.  The configuration of Grafana accepts external IP addresses & displays metrics that are emitted from RNode.

    • Building gRPC Client API for client data retrieval

    • Improving memory monitoring metrics.

    • Node team focused on bug fixes.

  • Roscala:

    • Team has tied off their work and joined the Rholang and Node teams.
